How to Start Blogging... Again

Walk over to your desk. Pull up your chair. Sit down. And... start typing. "End Blog". It sounds almost to good to be true. But maybe it isn't...

Truth is I have been slacking, in terms of blogging, over the last year. When the world has been put on halt or better yet, turtle mode, (if your parents made you do chores as a kid, you'll understand, if not, stop by Canadian Tire, or Home Depot and go for a quick twirl around the lawnmowers) I should have been pumping out blog after blog after blog, and same goes for you. Yet, here we are.

If you're reading this I think it be fair to assume you're in a similar position to myself. We have dived into new opportunities, yet, blogging has been in the back of our mind. Should we have ever stopped blogging? Nope. Has it been constantly in the back of our minds that: Hey, I should write a blog about XYZ...? Yup. With that, here's what we can do to ...start blogging again:

1.  Drown Out The Noise. I have found an issue of mine for blogging, or working on any other sort of project is that the major hindrance has been myself. You make excuses for yourself: Ah I didn't get up early enough let me start this tomorrow, I'm not the best writer I should write drafts and look them over (to be honest, not a bad idea but that hurts my thinking and my next point), blah blah blah. The noise we're making in our own heads is the issue and we need to...

2. Just Do It. Nike really has said it best and it's been my motto for the better part of the last year. For some reason with all of this additional time, it seems as though our creative thinking has grown (FANTASTIC!) in terms of our extravagant excuses we create for ourselves to not start that next project. Which is why, I think these three words are so important. It's what I did today. The thought to start blogging crossed my mind and I just "Walked over to my desk. Pulled up my chair. Sat down. And... started typing". The intro sounds familiar now, doesn't it?

3. Apply Some Pressure. Maybe I'm a little different but I find I'm most productive under pressure. Whether I have a lot of things on my plate or I have set expectations to others, that's when I do best. There are a number of tools or tricks, you can use: writing on a post it note to "write a blog twice/ week", tell your friends you'll be releasing a blog every week and they'll keep you honest if you don't, or go all in and put it out into the world that you are going to challenge yourself to blog for 30 straight days. Regardless of which path you decide to go on to apply some additional pressure, it will lead you into the right direction.

So where does that leave me, at the end of a short 20min session? Well I'm going to make it a habit to blog whenever I feel like blogging. I find it's a great brain dump to get my ideas out there it seems whenever I start projects a snowball effect takes place and the ideas start rolling. PLUS, sharing these blogs, or your own are a great way to refine the skill of storytelling which is a great tool to have in marketing.

Speak soon... in a week? Few days? Or, next hour? I'm not sure but it will be again soon.
